The Hanoi Old Quarter is often called "36 Old Streets" but in fact, there are more than 36 streets, it is up to 70 streets in Hanoi Old Quarter. The number 36 perhaps came from 15th century when there might have been 36 guild locations, which were workshop areas, not streets. Each street was dedicated to one special ware and start with "Hang". The name of the street is also originated from the products people sold in the pass, some remain selling this kind of the product in the present, but some not.
