Each street was dedicated to one special ware and start with "Hang". The name of the street is also originated from the products people sold in the pass, some remain selling this kind of the product in the present, but some not.

For example: Hang Bac Street, “Bac” means silver and from 13th century up to now, this street appears with many shops selling silver jewelry of different types: engravers, smelters, polishers, and gold-leaf makers. Hang Mam Street: “Mam” means fish sauce which made from fish, but now, it is hard to find any shop selling fish sauce in this street.
